Race Details

First things first. This is an adventure run. This means the Escarpment 5.5 is not a supported run. You are doing this of sound body and mind, and by your own volition. The run starts on the southeast corner of Wm Cannon and Escarpment Blvd. by the Exxon station. We'll be running across busy streets and intersections with lights (Convict Hill, Hillside Terrace, Slaughter, La Crosse, 45). It his highly recommended that you run on the east side of Escarpment against traffic. Stay in the bike lane and/or sidewalk and remain aware of your surroundings. Follow pedestrian rules. Stop at red lights. Wait for pedestrian crossing signals. Look both ways. Make sure you're seen and safe.

You're solely repsonsible for getting yourself to and from the start and/or end points. You're solely reponsible for parking if you choose to park a car somewhere. You're solely responsible for your own safety. This is not a supported or sanctioned event.

We're doing this maverick-style. I've no plans to contact the HOA or police. We'll run amongst traffic and we'll end with a party at the roundabout. Don't tell mom. Bring your party hat. The race will start at exactly 5:55 p.m. CST on Friday, May 5, 2017. May 5th is a Friday this year so use it as an excuse to duck out of work early and start the weekend off with a fun & exciting run and party!

We will have music, food and imbibements.

About

The Escarpment 5.5 (prounounced five-five) was thunk up by me. I'm Josh. I (re)fell in love with running in July 2013 and have done the vast majority of my training in the Circle C area. Many of those miles have been trudged on Escarpment Blvd. My family and I have lived in Circle C for 13 years. We know a lot of y'all and we'd love to meet a lot more of y'all! I've participated in the Circle C Turkey Trot for the past 3 years. I also started the Circle C Run Club Facebook group.

I admittedly know absolutely nothing about coordinating a race. I always thought it would be really cool to organize a race in our neighborhood. One day in mid-2016, I was just driving down Escarpment and it hit me... I should organize a race that spans the distance of Escarpment from point-to-point. So I mapped it (twice) using my Jeep's odometer and my GPS watch and found that it's a really beautiful 5.5-mile course. What a great distance and route for a neighborhood run!

The plan is to have an amazing craft brew formulated by our own neighbor Ari, some food (probably of the slow smoked variety), some fixins, Gatorade & water. If you'd like to help by bringing a potluck item, that'd be awesome. We'll probably need help with logistics & setup at the finish, so anyone who'd be willing to volunteer would be appreciated a million times over. I don't want to over-formalize this thing, but also want to make sure everyone has a great time after humping it 5.5 miles.

If this becomes a thing, I'd love to have future runs support the hyper-local community. If you're interested in helping out, please don't hesitate to contact me.
